IESL Launches E-Library, Unlocking Over a Century of Engineering Knowledge
By PUBLICITY DIVISION (IESL)
In a landmark initiative to preserve and share Sri Lanka’s engineering heritage, the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) officially launched its e-Library facility for members on May 6, 2025. This digital platform grants access to a rich archive of approximately 2,900 research papers published in the IESL Engineer Journal and IESL Transactions, dating back as far as 1906.

The e-Library is a significant step forward in enhancing knowledge sharing and supporting professional development among engineers. The collection includes decades of pioneering research, technical papers, and engineering insights that reflect the evolution of engineering practices in Sri Lanka. It serves not only as a historical archive but also as a valuable reference for modern engineering challenges and innovations.

“Making over a century’s worth of engineering research accessible to our members ensures that the next generation of engineers can learn from the past while building for the future,” said a spokesperson from IESL.
The platform is currently available to IESL members, who can access the e-Library through the institution’s official website using their member credentials. The initiative supports IESL’s commitment to digital transformation and continuous professional development.
Looking ahead, the IESL plans to expand the e-Library’s offerings by including conference proceedings, technical standards, policy papers, and other engineering-related publications. There are also plans to introduce advanced search features and user-friendly tools to enhance accessibility and research efficiency.
This landmark project was developed under the chairmanship of Eng. Ms. Kamala Gunawardena, whose leadership was instrumental in bringing the vision to life. IESL extends its heartfelt gratitude to all members, volunteers, IT teams, and archival staff who supported and contributed to the successful development of the e-Library.
With this initiative, IESL continues to uphold its role as a custodian of engineering knowledge and a forward-looking leader in professional excellence.
